An MOT test is required by law for all vehicles that are 3 or more years old. The MOT test involves a large number of checks to a vehicle to ensure it is roadworthy. The MOT checks include brakes, fuel system, lights, mirrors, exhaust system and windscreen wipers.
What happens during an MOT test?
During the MOT test a person accredited by the DVSA conducts the inspection in the designated MOT test area. The inspection is to ensure a vehicle is roadworthy, however it is worth noting an MOT test does not check the general mechanical condition of a vehicle. The assessment is based on the condition of a vehicle on the day of the MOT test.
What happens when a vehicle passes the MOT test?
A vehicle that passes the MOT test will be issued an MOT pass certificate. A separate list will also be created to inform the owner of any advisory or minor items that may require attention in the future.
What happens when a vehicle fails the MOT test?
We hope your car passes its MOT first time, but if there are any issues we’ll be in touch, as most repairs can be carried out on site the same-day and a FREE re-test provided.

What if your MOT has expired?
Without a current MOT certificate for a vehicle you are not able to drive the vehicle on public roads or renew road tax. Driving without an MOT certificate could land you a fine of up to £1000. If the vehicle has failed the MOT test and is deemed as dangerous then the fine can be up to £2500 and 3 points added to the driver’s license.
Please call Premier Group to arrange an appointment for your MOT test as soon as possible. A vehicle that is booked in for an MOT test can be driven to the test station only.
Failure to maintain a valid MOT certificate may also affect insurance claims in the event of an accident.
MOT certificates are now computerised enabling the police and mobile camera units to identify vehicles driving without an MOT certificate through simple number plate referencing.
